- Say which of this year's changes are law rather than statutory guidance
- Apply the regulated activity test to a volunteer in their own setting
- Say what the setting must obtain for a volunteer who is caught by the change, and by when
- Say what every member of staff now has to read, and what has been withdrawn
- Use the current terminology for images and for early help
- Name the person in their setting who owns each job on the action list

Why every member of staff, and not just the teaching team
KCSIE 2026 withdrew the condensed version of Part one. Staff who do not work directly with children are now expected to read Part one in full, in the same way as everybody else. In most settings that means the office, site, catering, transport and finance teams need the same briefing as the classroom.
A note on currency
Keeping children safe in education is revised annually and comes into force each 1 September. This session describes the 2026 version and is rebuilt each year against the current guidance. If you are reading this in a later academic year, ask us for the current one.
Who delivers it
Vivien Beni, a Registered Mental Health Nurse and Band 6 Looked After Children Practitioner in NHS CAMHS, who holds a PGCE in Additional Learning Needs and spent five years as a Special Educational Needs Tutor for ages 7 to 19. She attends child protection conferences, writes court reports assisting prosecutions, and deputises for her Clinical Service Manager with responsibility for multi-agency exploitation and Channel panels.
Assessment and evidence
Every delivery produces the paperwork an employer, a commissioner or an inspector will ask for. It is collected from the first course, not retrofitted later.

- Optional written reflective assessment for CPD or revalidation evidence

- Attendance records retained for six years
Fees
In-house delivery for your own team, at your site or online. There is no per-delegate charge, so a whole-staff INSET slot costs the same as a small group. Travel is included within Shropshire, Cheshire, Powys and the Wrexham and Oswestry area, and charged at cost beyond it.

What this course is not
It is not designated safeguarding lead training, which schools should obtain from their local safeguarding partnership or a specialist provider. It is not the safer recruitment training that KCSIE expects at least one member of an appointment panel to hold: this session explains the regulated activity change so that your own safer recruitment lead can act on it. It is not legal advice. We are explicit about all of this with delegates on the third slide.
